About Us

The Diversity News began as an email distributed to interested employees by Kenneth W. Mouning, Sr., who worked in CIGNA's Bloomfield office.  CIGNA was planning to discontinue the "Career Development for Minorities Workshop" because of lack of attendance.  Many employees didn't know about the program until Ken made sure and all affected employees knew about it.  As a result, there was a waiting list for the workshop and CIGNA continued to offer it. Meanwhile, Ken's communication that had been set into motion continued.  It grew from an email about the course to a full-fledged newsletter that addressed issues and events for People of Color.  As the popularity of the newsletter grew, a board was developed and the content included more and more diverse interests for all people, thus the name, Diversity News, evolved. The publication grew to include over 2,000 CIGNA employees nationwide.

After 8 years of publication, on June 18, 2004, the last issue was distributed within the corporation because Ken left the company. So many readers expressed disappointment that the publication was ending, that Ken Mouning,  founder, and Tomaca Govan, past editor, decided to develop a website to continue the Diversity News online.  James Jeudy decided to become involved by contributing weekly informative real estate information.

Diversity News.ORG is still being developed and the staff is working hard to create an informative site and publication that people can refer to for information about cultural entertainment, networking, motivation, diversity and community.  As with most good things, it will take time to put it together, but everyone is welcome to browse as we build and design. But, most importantly, readers are welcome to participate!

The purpose of the news is to focus on positive diversity issues, networking and employment opportunities and cultural activities. We would love to receive your comments and feedback, as well as continue to share information about events taking place everywhere in the United States -- and in the world! We'd like to share your original recipes, stories about your heroes or "sheroes," positive poetry and PSAs (public service announcements) from non-profit organizations.

Diversity News.ORG's website is put together by volunteers who are interested in sharing information and resources.  We still have lots of work to do and appreciate your patience and support. If you'd like to help, please let us know. Please feel free to
